LHS Beatles – Today

2020 COVID-19 isolation, emptying nests, semi-retirement, and internet conveniences provided the perfect opportunity to pick up where we left off just before the ’80s at which point adulthood kept us preoccupied for decades to come. And could it be that a 50th anniversary of LHS Beatles seems way closer than any of us would like to admit? Anyway, some bass and guitar tracks were hastily recorded in Fall of 2020 and… nothing happened for a while. LHS founder, Gordon, still had a daughter to guide through senior year in high school and off to college (not surprisingly quite an athlete, herself). The idea of collaborating online picked up traction more quickly with with drummer Dan, guitarist Crispin, and organist Ted and, in fits and starts and great patience, the projects continue to be a labor of love and an ongoing musical education. Gordon came on board, providing piano and vocals for Lady Madonna, (also featuring beloved LHS Band Director Jeff Leonard on reeds. Gordon has since assised with Hard Days Night and When I’m 64 (a milestone his classmate of LHS ’77 has been zooming by in 2023).

While we do enjoy studying the masterful performances and audio production of the original Fab Four (+) and aspire to their technical mastery and unique sound, we don’t expect to fool anyone with with our remakes (although some less discriminating listeners have been known to mistake one or another effort for the originals).

Our reward comes from our shared email traffic which may contain what we should try next, related or unrelated YouTube links of Beatles or other amazing performances, Crispin’s boundless knowledge of everything Beatles, catching up on what everyone’s been doing these past decades, and (of course) sampling the first mix of the latest project. While we may virtually “high-five” each other when we get close to the mark, hearing each other’s unique personality in the end product also makes them “keepers” in our book.

Whether or not you are an original LHS Beatles participant (performer, audience member, or parent), you are welcome to sample our 21st century digital music-making by old friends working together between California, Massachussetts, and the UK. PLEASE LEAVE A NOTE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE. Half the fun here is getting re-connected after all these years.
